Design ideas

Concrete is molded, rather than cut – this means that it is much more versatile than stone. In addition to the standard features of stone countertops, such as profiled or curved edges, here are some ideas that are possible only with concrete:

  • For undermount sinks, we can mold perfectly sharp corners to fit a hand-made “box”-style sink, as shown in the photo. For integral-cast sinks, we can hand-make just about any shape you like – a cascading-bottom trough sink is our signature style.
  • For a hard-working food preparation area, we can mold a recess for a custom cutting board whose edge forms part of the sink cut-out. We can also embed stainless steel drainage grooves for a sleek look and an unobtrusive drain board that actually drains water.
  • Concrete countertops go perfectly with embedded metal, stones, petrified wood and fossils. You can choose the pieces you like from our collection or provide your own heirlooms, and we’ll place them in the mold. After concrete flows around the pieces, they become part of the countertop, flush with the surface.

  • Seams are often inevitable even in medium-sized kitchens, and concrete seams are not as neat as those in stone countertops. But with concrete, seams don’t have to be perpendicular to the edge of the countertop, or even straight. We have made curved seams and lined them with strips of stainless steel for a dramatic effect. When you can’t hide them, make them a design feature!

Our styles and colours
Most of our customers want their concrete to look like concrete – that is why our edges are mostly blunt and our most popular colours are “natural” and its slightly warmer version, “sage”. However, we can create profiled edges, and our colour palette is very broad.

Using black and the primary colours red, yellow and blue, we can create just about any colour on the wheel. Grey cement will give more earthy, subdued tones, while white cement will produce more vivid hues.

Our surface finish is subdued, with just a hint of speckle from exposed grains of sand. We can make it satin-smooth or polish it up, but it’s always buttery-soft, organic – and surprisingly warm to the touch.
